My diary-Critical Reading Reflection

In this class, I learned Critical Reading subject with Dr. Usa Noytim. This is my feeling toward on this subject and teacher after I've been learning critical reading. First of all at the first time when I met her again, I’m glad to see her. But when I heard the name of this subject, it’s made me bias in this subject because I think it’s so difficult. She started to review old past knowledge when we have learned two years ago. She gave some assignments for me and my friend to talk about what is the critical reading. Next, she taught me about Mona Lisa’s picture to critical in that picture that what we can learn from this picture.

There are many topics that we had to learn in this clause and very important such as Fact and Opinion. I think this topic quite easy more than another subject. Next topic is how to find the main ideas; I learned the techniques to find main ideas step by step. Another topic that we learned in this class; Book reviews, Movie reviews, Advertisements, and Reading Editorials etc. I think all of these topics that I learned are very important in my life because when I grow up to be a teacher, I must have about this knowledge to teach the student or works.

About my feeling toward on teacher, I like to studied with her because her technique teaching are very good, she made me relax while I studied and we were practicing about critical thinking all the times. She always suggests about new things for us that I never know before. Finally I need to say “Thank you teacher very much for her teaching and kindness to teach in my class (54/17)”. I hope the teacher teach me and my friends again (54/17). I enjoyed in this class.

My diary 23/09/2013 Critical Reading

Today is 23 September 2013. It’s the last day that I had to learned in this subject and this semester. I had a critical reading class with Dr. Usa Noytim. We learned topic about “Facebook that to share your info for money”. She asked us to share our ideas and write on the whiteboard that to answer the questions. This is my answer for 6 questions and my ideas from this topic.

1.            How many users does Facebook have?

-     Facebook has 400 million users.

2.          With what websites has Facebook recently begun sharing users’ personal profile information?

-     Facebook has recently begun to share personal profile information with Pandora and Yelp.

3.          What other changes has Facebook recently made to the website?

- Facebook wants to change some fundamentally alter the relationship between users and the social networking site. (Personalization pilot program)

4.          Even if you block information shared from your site, how could your personal information still be made public?

-     The information could still be shared from a friend's account.

5.          Do you think Facebook should automatically share your info, and only refrain from doing so if you know about it and go into your settings to opt out?  Explain your answer.

-     I think Facebook shouldn’t automatically share information because some people want their information is private. But Facebook can still make money sharing some advertisements or products on its own website without having to share the information with other companies or people.

6.          This article states “Facebook wants to make money by selling user information.”  Do you think that is their motive for sharing your info, or is it as Facebook stated, to assist users by "promot[ing] social activity" by sharing your info? Explain your answer.

-     I think sometimes Facebook's motivation for sharing information and sometimes it’s promoted to sharing personal profile information in social activity, it’s depending on their target who owns the website.

I think this lesson was interesting because that topic can apply in my diary life and made me happy in this classroom. Thank you

My diary 19/09/2013 Critical Reading

Today is 19 September 2013. I had a critical reading class with Dr. Usa Noytim. First of all, we started to learn about Reading Editorials in worksheet that she gave us from last week. She read one of news in worksheet that was about the 44 hurt after light rail cars collide in San Francisco, then she searched that news on the internet and she gave us to write and work in group about content of that text. Second she started the next text that was about Another enormous Obamacare ‘Oops’ by Michael Barone. This content was about the insurance in America. I thought he might not agree in the insurance from this sentences in text--If large number of employees are may not enrolled in “skinny” health insurance policy because of its low-benefit. Third she asked us brainstorming about next topic that we had to learn-Facebook. Finally, she assigned us to read and do the exercise in that sheet. I enjoyed in this class because I learned about the knowledge of another country that was some policy in their country. I think “skinny” insurance quite not good because it’s not coverage like real insurance and low-benefit. I think this lesson was interesting and made me happy in this classroom. Thank you

My diary 12/09/2013 Critical Reading

Today is 12 September 2013. I had a critical reading class with Dr. Usa Noytim. We continued learn about the advertisement from last week and did exercises together. The contents that we learned about the theme of advertisement, is different from a feather. A feather can be stated in one or two words: strength, good taste, high quality. Next, she suggested about how to read and knew advertisement and taught how to find the theme, type of product, and target audience. Finally, she gave us news sheets is about reading editorials, then she assigned homework for us to find 3 advertisements that easy for myself. I think this lesson so difficult but it very important, because it made me develop my reading skill and critical think. I enjoyed in this class. Thank you

My diary 5/09/2013 Critical Reading

Today is 5 September 2013. I had a critical reading class with Dr. Usa Noytim. First of all she asked us about the details of movie reviews and wrote it on the whiteboard. Then she gave us some sheets are about movie reviews for examples; The First Grader. Next, she gave some worksheet again and we did them together. Finally we learned about reading advertisement and we did exercise on the sheets. Before I finished class today, she assigned me homework to find the movie reviews that we like. I think this lesson wasn't difficult and it could be improve my English skills. I enjoyed in this class. Thank you

Today is 29 August 2013. I had a critical reading class with Dr. Usa Noytim. Today we learned about reading book review. She gave us new sheet about the Teaching Reading Skills in a Foreign Language book review. We read them together and did exercise. Next, she gave us some sheet about the following book review of CHRISTINE NUTTALL. We founded the examples of positive and negative comment in that passage. Then, she shown us about the book review example on the internet and we did some worksheet again to check understanding in this topic. Finally, she gave assignment for us to find some book review. I think this lesson was difficult but it could be improve my English skills. I enjoyed in this class. Thank you

My diary 22/08/2013 Critical Reading

Today is 11 July 2013. I had a critical reading class with Dr. Usa Noytim. When she came to the classroom, we got the mid-term test and started to do that. I think it was difficult. After the test, we learned about the review of The First Grader again to more understand. Finally, she gave the new sheet for us. That sheet was about skill of Author’s purpose, Author’s tone, Author’s point of view and Author’s intended audience. It made me more understand the several passages because I know about many important skills to help my understanding.  I think this lesson quite difficult, but it made me to understand when we need to read and find the Author’s purpose, Author’s tone, Author’s point of view and Author’s intended audience in the passage. My diary 15/08/2013 Critical Reading

Today is 15 August 2013. I had a critical reading with Dr. Usa Noytim. I reviewed the old topic The First grader. First, she asked us about the words that relative of The First Grader by making mind mapping. We discussed this true story with my partner and shared some ideas. Then, we did exercises of that story together and checked the answers. It made me know more about that story and appreciate in his life because he is motivated, persistent and caring. Finally, Dr. Usa gave me assignments and I discussed about the immigration in each country before I finished class today. I think this class is quite easy and I enjoyed and happy in this class. My diary 25/07/2013 Critical Reading

Today is 25 July 2013. I had a critical reading with Dr. Usa Noytim. First, she asked us to think and discuss with partner that topic about what important things do people learn in school and what were the three most useful things you learned in school. Next, she explained about measuring global literacy, school enrollment girls and do exercise together. After that she advised the movie for us that's the grader.  It was about the old man want to study in the primary school. It was very good movie because it made me know and agree about “Life long learning” and “You’re never too old to learn”. Finally, she asked to summaries the first grader's story and made a comment what I learn from the movie. It was a very nice lesson. I think this lesson was interesting and important for me. I enjoyed in this class. Thank you

My diary 18/07/2013 Critical Reading

Today is 18 July 2013. I went to attend “The 5th NPRU National academic Conference Research for Sustainably Regional Development toward ASEAN Community”. First lecturer, Prof.Dr.rer.nat. Manfred Koch from Germany. He discussed about risk of earthquakes, disasters of each country focusing in Thailand etc. Second lecturer, Surayut Chulanon. He discussed the philosophy of the efficient economy of His Majesty which our King has given us for more than 30 years. He explained about how to develop yourself for the ASEAN. I got the ideas for prepare to join the AEC and know that is very important in the future. I think this seminar is very interesting.

My diary 11/07/2013 Critical Reading

Today is 11 July 2013. I had a critical reading class with Dr. Usa Noytim. I studied about The Age of Immigrant in the old sheet. We learnt about how to fine the main ideas by saw the first sentences of each paragraph and don’t forgot to use the hypothesis. She asked us what was the immigrant or immigration and do exercise together. The first exercise was getting the first idea about the article, second was main idea check and the last exercise was about vocabulary. Finally she assigned the homework to find immigrant of each country and discuss in your group about important topic of immigration. I think this lesson so difficult, but it made me to understand when we need to find the main idea in the passage. I enjoyed in this class. Thank you

My diary 4/07/2013 Critical Reading

Today is 4 July 2013. I had a critical reading class with Dr. Usa Noytim. I learned about how to find the main ideas. She asked us about what is the main idea and how is it important. She explained about skills and strategies of main ideas. We learned about the early hypothesis formation and testing step by step to find the main ideas. We did some exercises together. I think they were difficult because they had many difficult vocabularies, but she answered and advised to do the exercises. Finally we had a quiz about fact and opinion. I think this lesson is difficult but it can develop my English skill. I like to study with her. Thank you

My diary 27/06/2013 Critical Reading

Today is 27 June 2013. I had a critical reading class with Dr. Usa Noytim. I studied about Fact and Opinion. She gave us made 4 or 5 people for each group. Then she talked about how different between fact and opinion. She gave us made 5 sentences about fact and opinion for checked to understand and we shared ideas together. Finally, we did exercises and checked the answer together again. It’s very nice because it made me to understand and separate more about fact and opinion. We don’t have a quiz because the time not enough. I think this lesson quite easy for me and my friends. I enjoyed this class. I like to study in group work. Thank you

My diary 20/06/2013 Critical Reading

Today is 20 June 2013. I had a critical reading class with Dr. Usa Noytim. I studied about Popular Culture Critical Reading. She told me about difficult words for easy to answer in that passage. When I already to answered, she made some groups for critical and check to the others answer. I learned about sushi, is popular in America and know about how to make sushi and different between nirigi zushi with maki zushi. Finally she gave the quiz about critical reading of sushi. I confused and didn’t understand in some sentences. I felt it difficult, but it’s very important to develop my reading skill. It made me know about sushi more. I think this lesson was very exciting and challenging. Thank you

My diary 13/06/2013 Critical Reading

Today is 13 June 2013. I had a critical reading class with Dr. Usa Noytim. I studied about Mona Lisa’s picture. Teacher gave that picture on the projector and she told me try to critical about it. When I saw that picture, I think it tell me about the emotion something such as she looks happy and sad. When I look her mouth, she looks quite happy but when I look her eyes, she looks so sad. I don’t know is why not. But I think this picture teach me about the real life. We also feel happy and so sad in the same time. By the way she gave us the first quiz about basic critical reading. I felt it difficult, but it’s very important to develop my reading skill. I think this lesson was very exciting and challenging. Thank you

Today is 6 June 2013. I had a critical reading class with Dr. Usa Noytim. She gave a course syllabus and explained about this course. She reviewed old past knowledge when we have learned two years ago. She gave some assignments for me and my friend to talk about what is the critical reading. We discussed about them and shown the ideas for my friend. She compared between critical reading and critical thinking then we known and lectured to my notebook for learn in the future.
